The miracle of co-creation and community
And then the community interested in this conversation shows up…
One of the things I was surprised by is that the early-preorders of our book from July 30th - August 3rd shot it up to #1 in four different software and visual design categories:
#1 New Release in Web Design
#1 in User Experience & Usability
#1 in Web Site Design
#1 in Computer Graphic Design
As a long time writer, my co-author Scott Berkun has been through this kind of book launch stuff a lot, but I have not.
Most days fraudy feelings rule my brain and I wonder:
Do I have anything worthwhile to say?
Why would anyone want to write a book with me?
How does fruitful co-creation emerge between a full-time author and someone navigating the limited availability nature of full time tech work and a side project?
Then moments like Saturday, August 3rd unfold.
The community interested in this conversation shows up. And I experience a kind of #LuckySchmuckWhoSnuckIntoTheCircusAndNoOneHasKickedMeOutYet giddiness that would never happen without the generosity of co-creators and community.
Scott Berkun and I are writing a book on "Why Design is Hard". To keep up with our progress, sign-up here. Please consider pre-ordering the book to help get the word out.
Hello Zug, nice to see a familiar name. I remember you as a commenter from back when Scott had a frequent blog. As I recall, you once had to explain to me you were being sarcastic, which led me to a new concept:
people in safer places can be wide eyed, but folks raised less safe have to figuratively have lines around their eyes like the more worldly folks in the Doonsebury cartoons. To me the lines represent a (time delay filter) so they can check for sarcasm or lies before letting words in. By extension, folks amongst criminals would have to be narrow eyed indeed. Maybe purse lipped too.
Happily, you and Scott and I are not so guarded. Congratulations on the book!
