Hey folks. Book production work is ramping up as you’ll see below. I’m also beginning to roll out marketing for the book and that starts with free office hours. You can tune in and get advice or ask questions.
Free advice / Office hours
I’m setting up regular time for designers, or anyone interested in questions about power and influence really, to get free advice. You can ask about topics from the book, from my past books, a specific situation you face now or career advice. It’s really up to you.
It will be first come first served and if a few folks join I’ll take Q&A in the order people ask. And if no one shows up I’ll ask myself for advice instead :)
This will start NEXT week (August 8th or 9th). And run weekly until the book is out. I’ll post the Zoom link to this substack the day before.
It’s OK to share this with your teams and networks if you know others who would be interested. It will be open to all.
What: Scott Berkun - Design Office Hours
Why: Get free and entertaining advice on your frustrations and situations as a pro UX’er from an industry veteran and author of How Design Makes The World, The Myths of Innovation and other books.
When: You decide!
Amazon Kindle pre-order
The kindle edition of Why Design Is Hard is now available for pre-order.
There will of course be a paperback edition too, but setting that up for sale takes longer. Stay tuned.
First book proof: looking good
One of the last steps of the publishing process is what’s called proofing. The publisher sends you a test printing of the book so you can see how it actually looks. There can be issues with the cover design, interior layout and more.
Here’s what the first proof of the book looks like. I think it looks great but you can tell me what you think.
That’s all for now
I’ll have more details on marketing and (hopefully) where I’ll be speaking about the book in the coming year. Stay tuned.
Ebook pre-ordered! Waiting for paperback versions ☺️
